MORTIMER DISMAYED BY SMURF COMPARISON

British actress EMILY MORTIMER was delighted by her debut appearance in the U.S. tabloids - until she realised they were mocking her fashion sense.

The 51st State star spied red carpet shots of herself in print, but was dismayed to discover she was being compared to popular blue-hued cartoon characters The Smurfs.

She says, "I opened one of them and there I am. I've never been in one of them before. It's me in a blue dress on the red carpet. I'm thinking, maybe I've arrived.

"Then I look up at the top of the page and it says, 'Fashion Disasters'. There's a caption underneath which says, 'Why did Emily Mortimer choose to leave her house dressed as a Smurf?'"
