THE SPICE GIRLS' comeback track has been broadcast just once a day on U.K. radio stations - because of the ballad's hugely disappointing download sales.
The newly reunited five-piece released Headlines (Friendship Never Ends) for digital download last week (5Nov07) - but the ballad is ranked at a lowly No. 20 in the U.K.'s single charts after shifting only 4,907 virtual copies.
George Ergatoudis, Head Of Music at the U.K.'s Radio 1, says, "The opinion of the Radio 1 playlist team is that the song isn't strong enough. Clearly there's a huge number of Spice Girls fans out there - look at the (concert) tickets they have sold.
"But Headlines is very disappointing. The song simply isn't strong enough. It would have been a B-side in their heyday."
The track is due to go on sale in U.K. shops on Monday (12Nov07) and the band will kick off their tour in Vancouver, Canada, on 2 December (07).
