Lavigne was given the accolade of Solo Artist Of 2007, while her hit single Girlfriend scooped the award for Most Addictive Track.
Linkin Park won the Band Of 2007 award, and R+B beauty Rihanna beat competition from Beyonce Knowles, Justin Timberlake, Kanye West and Timbaland to win the Ultimate Urban prize.
British soul star Amy Winehouse continued her run of awards successes, winning the Artists' Choice gong ahead of other favourites Lily Allen, The White Stripes and Nelly Furtado.
However, her live performance of Back To Black left audiences at the ceremony in Munich, Germany lost for words as she slurred her way through the song and appeared despondent throughout.
Timberlake was the biggest loser of the night, after failing to win any of the four categories he was nominated in, including Album Of The Year and Solo Artist Of 2007.
Other winners on the night included Muse, Tokio Hotel and 30 Seconds to Mars.
