DIANA INQUEST HEARS OF COLLISION WITH WHITE FIAT

The jury at the inquest into the death of DIANA, PRINCESS OF WALES, has heard how a small car collided with the British royal's vehicle moments before she was killed in the 1997 Paris, France, crash.

DIANA, Princess of Wales

Giving evidence at London's High Court on Monday (29Oct07), witnesses Georges and Sabine Dauzonne claim they saw former security guard Le Van Thanh driving erratically away from the scene of the Princess' death in his white Fiat Uno on 31 August (97).

Mr Dauzonne initially thought Thanh was drunk as his car swerved across the road as he left the Alma tunnel, but later noticed the Vietnamese man seemed to be "bothered" by something in his rearview mirror.

The jury were also told of further evidence showing a white Fiat Uno hitting the Mercedes car in which Diana and her lover Dodi Fayed were travelling in, shortly before the tragic accident which claimed both their lives.

Thanh was identified by the Dauzonnes from a number of photographs showing the now 32-year-old man posing in his Uno, which had been clearly resprayed red. He was questioned by French police three times following the Princess' death, but has never been charged.

The inquest aims to establish whether Diana and Fayed were simply the victims of a tragic accident, or if they were the targets of an assassination plot headed by the British royal family - as claimed by Fayed's father, tycoon Mohamed Al Fayed.

The case continues.
