Bollywood director BHAVNA TALWAR has slammed the Indian Oscar selection committee for "denying" her an Academy Award.
The Hollywood Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences has given the country a deadline of Wednesday (17Oct07) to confirm its choice of entry for the foreign film category amid allegations of nepotism.
India's entry, Eklayva: The Royal Guard, was nominated last month (Sep07) by the country's Oscar selection committee - but Talwar, director of runner-up movie Dharm, mounted a legal battle to challenge the decision.
She alleges members of the committee had close links to Eklayva's director, Vidhu Vinod Chopra, who has been nominated twice in the past for the award.
She says, "Because of some biased individuals, I've been denied my right to go to the Oscars.
"An aesthetic decision has not been made - we have much better films in India. This sort of thing has been going on for some time. There's an absolute lack of accountability in the decision-making process."
