British film director MICHAEL WINNER considered killing himself after contracting a rare virus that almost cost him a leg.
The 72-year-old fell ill after eating a bad oyster while celebrating Christmas (06) in Barbados, and then caught the MRSA super-bug while in hospital.
At one point doctor's contemplated amputating his leg, something Winner refused to contemplate.
He says, "The pain and the terror were so great that if I'd had a gun I would have killed myself. I really would. I couldn't have borne losing a leg, and they were defiintely considering amputation. as it is, they removed my achilles tendon, which is why I use a stick.
"But it's impossible to get a gun in hospital. You ask for a gun and they give you cornflakes. It's hard to commit suicide with cornflakes."
