MARSDEN BREAKS WIFE'S HEART WITH EARRINGS

X-MEN star JAMES MARSDEN broke his future wife's heart when he presented her with earrings on a romantic date - she was hoping it would be an engagement ring.

The actor took his then-girlfriend out for her birthday and presented her with what she thought was an engagement ring box.

He tells the new issue of Elle magazine, "We had been going out for four years, and, for her birthday, I took her out to a nice restaurant.

"Then I gave her a tiny box that looked like a ring box, and inside were diamond earrings. I was so proud of myself that I'd gotten her jewellery for her birthday, I never even thought that she might be expecting something else - like a ring.

"There's actually a Polaroid of us taken at the dinner table, and you can see little tears (of disappointment) in her eyes."

But it all worked out in the end - Marsden wed his wife, Lisa Linde, the following year. They have been married for seven years and have two children.
