THE TREATMENT

Cast: Famke Janssen, Stephanie March, Blair Brown, Chris Eigeman, Ian Holm

Synopsis: Jake Singer is an anxious young schoolteacher living in New York. He is barely on speaking terms with his father, was recently abandoned by his girlfriend, and is heading for a life of compromise and mediocrity at a prestigious uptown prep school. Emotionally paralyzed, Jake embarks on a course of psychoanalysis with the maniacal Argentine-Freudian Dr. Ernesto Morales, therapist from hell, who wields his heavily accented sarcasm like a machete. Morales' tactics are worthy of the Spanish Inquisition, and soon Jake is just trying to keep him at a distance while planning his escape. But when he meets socialite widow Allegra Marshall, Jake finds himself upwardly mobile in the Manhattan of serious moneblay and glamour. Bouncing from Morales's couch to Allegra's bed and back again, Jake finds his whole life taking on the strange unpredictable quality of a therapy session. Based on Daniel Menaker's novel and adapted for the screen by Daniel Housman and director Oren Rudavsky (Hiding and Seeking), the film version of The Treatment captures all of the wit and mystery of Jake Singer's epic journey through the realms of psychoanalysis and mature love. Set in contemporary New York City, the film was shot completely on location and premiered at the internationally renowned Tribeca Film Festival, where it was awarded Best Film, Made in New York in 2006.

YOU KILL ME

Cast: Ben Kingsley, Bill Pullman, Luke Wilson, Tea Leoni, Dennis Farina

Synopsis: Frank Falenczyk (Ben Kingsley) loves his job. He just happens to be the hit-man for his Polish mob family in Buffalo, New York. But Frank's got a drinking problem and when he messes up a critical assignment that puts the family business in peril, his uncle (Philip Baker Hall) sends him to San Francisco to clean up his act. Played with gruff charm by Kingsley, Frank is not a touchy-feely kind of guy. But he starts going to AA meetings, gets a sponsor (played by Luke Wilson) and a job at a mortuary where he falls for the tart-tongued Laurel (Tea Leoni), a woman who is dangerously devoid of boundaries. Meanwhile, things aren't going well in Buffalo where an upstart Irish gang is threatening the family business. When violence erupts, Frank is forced to return home and with an unlikely assist from Laurel, faces old rivals on new terms.
Stylishly directed by John Dahl (Rounders, The Last Seduction), You Kill Me is the story of what happens when two mismatched people find a common calling. With dead-on performances by Kingsley and Leoni, You Kill Me is a street-smart mob comedy that scores a direct hit.
