12-YEAR-OLD CAUGHT UP IN FILM RAPE SCANDAL

The family of a 12-year-old boy who reluctantly appeared in a rape scene in a new Afghan film have called the director to cut the controversial scene.

Ahmad Khan Mahmidzada plays a boy who is raped by a bully in The Kite Runner, and his family fears they could be ostracized when the film hits cinemas.

The boy's father, Ahmad Jaan Mahmidzada, says, "In Afghanistan, rape is not acceptable at all. This is against Afghan dignity. This is against Afghan culture."

The Kite Runner is based on the 2003 novel by Afghan-American writer Khaled Hosseini.
