DIDDY: 'BRITNEY DIDN'T DRINK ON MY WATCH'

Rap mogul SEAN 'DIDDY' COMBS has come to BRITNEY SPEARS' defence as the troubled star is ordered to submit to random drug and alcohol tests in her child custody battle - he insists she isn't a heavy drinker.

The rapper-turned-designer spent the night before the pop star's disastrous MTV Video Music Awards performance (09Sep07) with Spears - and didn't see her sip alcohol once.

He says, "The times that I was around her, in her defence, she don't (sic) drink any alcohol. I didn't see her drink.

"I was hospitable, I offered everybody a drink and, you know, she had water."

But Diddy admits he didn't think to advise Spears to stop partying and get her rest before the big show.

He tells U.S. news show Access Hollywood, "Everybody has their own way. Some people deal with nerves, they can't go to sleep."
