STYLE KING JACOB'S BOYFRIEND MAKES A FUR STATEMENT

The boyfriend of fur-loving fashion designer MARC JACOBS caused a stir at a New York Fashion Week Party - by wearing a dead mouse as a brooch.

Jacobs is no stranger to animal skin, designing shoes and handbags sculpted from fur in the past.

But the designer's partner, Preston, went a step further, strutting around the Mercedes-Benz party at Manhattan's State Armory on Monday night (10Sep07) wearing the white rodent attached to his lapel.

The mouse was mysteriously given to Preston by pal Courtney Love, who he arrived at the bash with.

When a disgusted photographer asked him to remove it for pictures, Preston replied, "I can't take it off. Courtney gave it to me. She won't let me take it off."

It's not the first time Preston has caused a scene - at another recent party he showed off a tattoo advertising his boyfriend's designs which he had etched onto the full length of his forearm.

The People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals (PETA) representatives, who are monitoring the designers at New York Fashion Week for the use of fur and animal products, seemed unimpressed by Preston's sartorial statement.

PETA's Senior Press Officer Karen Chisholm said, "When your only claim to fame is that you date a designer, I guess you go to extremes to gain attention."
