SPECTOR TRIAL: 'CLARKSON DID NOT COUGH BLOOD'

LATEST: A neuropathologist has dismissed PHIL SPECTOR's claims blood found on his clothes came from LANA CLARKSON coughing it up when he tried to help her, arguing she probably died instantly.

Spector is accused of the fatal shooting of the actress at his Alhambra, California mansion in February 2003.

He has pleaded not guilty and claims Clarkson committed suicide, despite his best efforts to save her after she pulled the trigger.

But in Los Angeles Superior Court on Wednesday (22Aug07), prosecution neuropathologist Dr. John Andrews testified against the theory that Clarkson could have lived for several minutes after being shot.

He argued it would be highly unlikely Clarkson could have breathed, coughed, spit or moved after sustaining her injuries, saying, "I don't believe she could have done these particular actions."

The music producer's defence claims the blood could have traveled up to six feet (1.8 metres) from Clarkson as she lay dying, while the prosecution alleges Spector was within three feet (0.9 metres) of her - close enough to have pulled the trigger.

The trial continues.
