SKA LEGEND HINES DIES

Ska legend JEROME HINES has died. He was 80.

The famed Jamaican musician died earlier this month (13Aug07) after a short illness.

Hines was a guitarist with 60s band Skatalites and was credited with creating the sound of ska.

Hines was 22-years-old when he first started to learn how to play guitar after borrowing the instrument from his blind father.

In his later years he was a reluctant live performer and refused to travel outside Jamaica.
