British police have warned performers at this weekend's (18-19Aug07) V Festivals in England there will be a "zero-tolerance" policy on drugs - with backstage searches for illegal substances planned.
The event, which is taking place across two venues in Chelmsford, Essex, and Hylands Park, Staffordshire, will see the likes of the Foo Fighters, Iggy Pop, Lily Allen and Pete Doherty taking to the stage.
But Superintendent Tim Spokes, of Essex police, has issued a warning to stars they will not be exempt from a venue-wide crackdown on drug taking.
He says, "We have sniffer dogs who will patrol the site, including behind the stage and in artist backstage areas.
"We hope to operate a crime-free event as far as possible."
Rehab singer Amy Winehouse was due to perform at the event, but cancelled late on Thursday (16Aug07), citing exhaustion.
