COWELL ADMITS 'STAGING' WALSH RETURN
Music mogul SIMON COWELL has admitted to 'staging' shots in the new series of his British TV talent show THE X FACTOR.

The American Idol star is seen mulling over the firing of previous season judge Louis Walsh in the first episode of the new series, which starts this weekend (18Aug07).
Following Westlife manager Walsh's departure, Cowell and ITV channel bosses invited Dannii Minogue and choreographer Brian Friedman to join Sharon Osbourne and himself on the judging panel.
Three months later (Jun07), Walsh was invited to rejoin the show and Friedman was denounced to creative director.
Cowell and ITV have been accused of filming scenes in which he and Osbourne discuss missing Walsh months after the majority of episode one was filmed, with some reports suggesting Walsh was fired and re-hired as a publicity stunt.
But Cowell explains, "Hand on heart, Louis was sacked. People keep asking if it was a scam. I wish I'd been that smart."
ITV director of entertainment Paul Jackson admits, "Occasionally, we have to go back and re-shoot something. We tell stories, we don't tell lies."

Two-times Oscar winner TOM HANKS has been elected as one of the vice presidents of America's Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences (AMPAS).

AMPAS announced Hanks' appointment on Wednesday (15Aug07) after he previously served as a governor of their actors branch.
Meanwhile, film producer Sid Ganis was re-elected president for his third term.
Ganis enthuses, "I'm truly honoured to have the opportunity to continue to serve as president of the Academy. There are so many interesting projects going on in the organisation. I'm excited to have the chance to help steer those along and to bring even more to our wide-reaching agenda."
AMPAS is the body responsible for awarding Oscars.

Veteran singer/songwriter BILLY JOEL has poured doubt on his former wife CHRISTIE BRINKLEY's rumoured relationship with SIR PAUL McCARTNEY, insisting they're all 'old friends'.

Former supermodel Brinkley and McCartney were spotted socialising at the Hamptons in New York state over the weekend (11/12Aug07), leading to speculation the single stars are dating.

LONDON WOMAN LOSES OUT IN JACKSON CUSTODY
LATEST: A London woman who claims she is the biological mother of MICHAEL JACKSON's three children has lost her legal attempt to share custody of the kids after failing to provide any evidence to support her claims.

Nona Paris Lola Jackson, 36, alleges she is the biological mother of the Thriller star's kids, Prince Michael I, Paris Michael and Prince Michael II (aka Blanket).
Jackson's ex-wife Deborah Rowe is generally acknowledged to be the mother of Jackson's two older children, but it is unknown who gave birth to Blanket.
Nona filed court papers in October (06) asking for a say in the custody arrangement between Jackson and Rowe. Nona maintains she has had a sexual relationship with Jackson and claims she has written 3,000 songs for him.
On Wednesday (15Aug07), Los Angeles Superior Court Judge Robert A. Schnider denied Nona's request for physical custody of the children and her second request to nullify the singer's previous marriages to Rowe and Lisa Marie Presley.
Schnider said, "I feel her evidence fails to establish any genetic relationship between herself and the Jackson-Rowe children."
Nona has attempted to have a say on the custody battle on several occasions in 2006 and 2007, but all have been rejected by a judge over lack of evidence and her failure to notify Jackson and Rowe of her claims.

BOYD: 'CLAPTON WAS AN ANIMAL'
ERIC CLAPTON turned into 'an animal' and regularly beat his wife PATTIE BOYD after failing to cure his alcohol addiction in rehab.

Clapton spent six weeks in a Minnesota rehab clinic in 1982, but the stint failed to cure his reliance on alcohol.
In a tell all autobiography, Boyd - who divorced the singer in 1989 after nine years of marriage - claims Clapton vented his frustrations out on her and feared she would be killed.
She says, "One day I saw a photograph my sister had taken of me. I didn't recognise myself. My face was puffy.
"There were times when he was more like an animal than the loving husband I'd known. I was frightened. I thought he'd end up killing one of us.
"It was as though he had lost his personality. He was also angry - angry he couldn't do the one thing he enjoyed in life: have a drink."

GILLAN BLASTS 'DEATH SENTENCE' OF CLASSIC ROCK RADIO
DEEP PURPLE frontman IAN GILLAN believes U.S. radio stations that play nothing but classic rock are a 'death sentence' for veteran bands.

The British singer claims that because such radio stations play nothing but chart hits, older acts never get a chance to promote their newer material.
Speaking to The Arizona Republic newspaper, Gillan says, "You have this thing called classic rock radio over here (in the U.S.). It's been a death sentence for all sorts of older bands. They don't play anything of ours other than Smoke On The Water and Highway Star.
"I heard (Deep Purple bassist) Roger Glover doing a radio interview, trying desperately to talk about a record we did in 2003 called Bananas.
"I was listening to it and my jaw just dropped, as this deejay ranted on about 1973. She wasn't the slightest bit interested in what he had to say, or anything that had happened in the last 30 years."

LATEST: Troubled soul star AMY WINEHOUSE is back at her London home after reportedly quitting rehab.

The 23-year-old singer's whereabouts have been unknown since she left a London hospital last week (08Aug07) after she collapsed following three days of hard partying.
Winehouse and husband Blake Fielder-Civil left the $20,000 (GBP10,000)-a-week Causeway Centre in Essex, England, on Wednesday (15Aug07), the singer's stepfather-in-law Giles Civil tells British newspaper the Daily Mirror.
Speaking outside her London home on Wednesday, Winehouse told the Mirror, "Oh my God, what the hell happened to last week? I'm fine, don't worry."
Fielder-Civil's mother Georgette told the Mirror on Wednesday the singer had admitted that both she and her husband were using heroin and cocaine.
Stepfather Giles Civil says, "We were praying they wouldn't bail out early. We don't want them to go back to their vicious circle. Amy has had five days away from drugs and her self-esteem and confidence is slowly coming back, but they can't be forced to stay."

Damon made the outburst at the British premiere of his third Bourne movie, The Bourne Ultimatum, in London on Wednesday night (15Aug07).
He says, "The Bond character will always be anchored in the 1960s and in the values of the 1960s.
"Bond is an imperialist and a misogynist who kills people and laughs about it, and drinks Martinis and cracks jokes
"Bourne is a serial monogamist whose girlfriend is dead and he does nothing but think about her. He doesn't have the support of gadgets and he feels guilty for what he has done. The characters are so fundamentally different they almost don't bear comparison."
Damon's director Paul Greengrass adds, "The Bourne franchise is not about wearing Prada suits and looking at women coming out of the sea with bikinis on. It's about essence and truth, not frippery and surface."

CONNIE FRANCIS SUES OVER FAN'S WILL
American sixties singer CONNIE FRANCIS is suing the family of a late fan who left $300,000 (GBP150,000) to the star shortly before killing herself.
Patricia Nilsen, 57, arranged a series of bank transfers to Francis in the days leading up to her suicide in Summerfield, Florida on 27 November (06).
Nilsen's relatives, who were originally set to be the heirs to Nilsen's estate in her original will, have accused Francis of using "undue influence" to obtain her fan's money.
Their lawyer Richard Brown says, "That $300,000 represents nearly the total value of Ms. Nilsen's estate. Our primary contention is that Ms. Francis enacted undue influence over Ms. Nilsen, which caused her to change the beneficiaries in her estate, or that Ms. Nilsen was insane at the time of her death."
However, the Who's Sorry Now hitmaker tells the New York Daily News, "I didn't even know she had any money. It's not my fault she left me the money.
"This woman was a fan of mine who came to all my shows in the '70s and '80s. The only real conversations I ever had with her were regarding music.
"At first I was willing to give her family half and also make a $25,000 donation to St. Jude Hospital."
Francis says she decided to sue after the relatives demanded the full amount or they would "embarrass" her publicly.
She adds, "They were trying to hold up the payment. So I sued them. I don't want to be greedy about this, but it's clear she didn't provide for these people."

American football player ADAM 'PACMAN' HONES is teaming up with producer SPOATY to launch a rap career.
Under the name Posterboyz, the duo will release their first single Let It Shine in August (07).

LATEST: Troubled rapper REMY MA discovered she will have to wait to be arraigned on shooting charges in a New York City court on Tuesday (14Aug07).

The hip-hop star, real name Remy Smith, was expecting to be indicted over charges she shoot her friend Makeda Barnes-Joseph outside a Manhattan nightclub last month (14Jul07).
Smith, 26, was charged with attempted murder, assault and criminal possession of a weapon.
At Manhattan Criminal Court on Tuesday, Smith found out her $250,000 (GBP125,000) bail had been extended until her next scheduled court date on 29 November (07).
Smith's lawyer tells the New York Daily News, "I suspect that the district attorney's getting conflicting views of the events from various witnesses and doesn't want to go before a grand jury until he's sure of what happened."
Barnes-Joseph has since been released from hospital following the shooting, but isn't able to return to work due to pain from her injuries.

BRITNEY SPEARS' one-time assistant SHANNON FUNK has denied press reports she had a lesbian affair with her former employer.
The American edition of OK! magazine this week (ends17Aug07) published photos of Spears, 25; and Funk, 21; seemingly naked together in a swimming pool, with Funk cuddling and kissing the pop star on the cheek.
Funk was fired by Spears last month (Jul07) after only a month's employment. She was assisting Spears during her disastrous photo shoot and interview with OK!, which resulted in the singer storming off with over $15,000 (GBP7,500)-worth of designer clothes and jewellery.

Aided by the clever strategies of his teacher Ambrosinus and the heroic skills of his loyal legionnaire Aurelius, Romulus escapes the island. Accompanied by his friends and a mysterious envoy from Constantinople, Romulus travels to Britannia in search of the last Roman Legion - the fabled Dragon Legion.
