WINEHOUSE 'ADDICTED TO HEROIN', CLAIMS MOTHER-IN-LAW

LATEST: British singer AMY WINEHOUSE is reportedly addicted to heroin, according to her mother-in-law GEORGETTE CIVIL.

Winehouse and husband Blake Fielder-Civil have checked into a rehab clinic in the U.S., according to British newspaper reports, after the singer collapsed following three days of hard partying last week, (08Aug07).

And now Fielder-Civil's mother tells the Daily Mirror newspaper, "You can't blame Amy, you can't blame Blake. They're just as bad as each other. It's the hardest thing in the world for me to say in public that my son and his wife have a drug problem...

"I know my son has had a drug problem ever since he was 20 and moved down to London. I needed to know about Amy's problems and we had a chat - just the two of us. She told me she was addicted to heroin and cocaine."

Civil claims Winehouse's father Mitch blamed Blake for his daughter's problems and argued with Fielder-Civil's stepfather Giles over the weekend (11-12Aug07).

Civil continues, "Mitch blamed Amy's husband and blew his top when Giles tried to defend him... Later Giles phoned him then he apologised unreservedly. Ironically, Mitch losing his temper at Giles has helped Amy and Blake.

"Both families are just very pleased and proud for them to recognise they have a problem and that they are making steps to cure it."

Country singer KENNY CHESNEY has blasted rival rappers 50 CENT and KANYE WEST for ignoring the fact his album is coming out at the same time as their latest discs.

50 Cent has vowed his album Curtis will outsell West's Graduation when the two discs are released on 11 September (07).

Chesney - ex-husband of Renee Zellweger - is stunned the two rappers think the competition is just between them, because his new album Just Who I Am: Poets and Pirates is also released on the same day.

Chesney says, "It's funny how with every record that comes out, we're aware of the urban (competition), and none of those acts acknowledge that I exist.

"Until I have that No. 1 debut on the Top 200."

MORRIS SHOCKED BY WILSON'S SUDDEN DEATH

NEW ORDER star STEPHEN MORRIS is in shock after the death of TONY WILSON on Friday (10Aug07) - because he can't believe the British music mogul succumbed to cancer so quickly.

The Factory Records co-founder, who signed Morris' first band Joy Division in 1978, died on Friday (10Aug07) after losing a battle with kidney cancer.

Morris had spent time with Wilson in recent weeks and didn't expect him to die so soon, especially as he was only diagnosed with cancer in December (06).

He says, "We were told that Tony had been given the last rites. And I didn't think he was that bad.

"Then at tea time on Friday I got a call from (Factory Records co-founder) Alan Erasmus, which was a shock anyway because I'd not heard from him in about 15 years. And he told me that Tony had just died. And I was shocked, double shocked.

"It was very fast. I saw him three weeks ago at a wedding, and I saw pictures of him at Coachella (Californian music festival in April). He was obviously ill and he had a very ill-advised beard, but Tony was still there.

"We were chatting about Neil Young at the Palace Theatre, and he seemed all right. Which is why I'm quite surprised that it's happened as quick as it has done really.

"I heard he was getting taken back to hospital, but that's one of the things about cancer, it's up and down a bit. The whole thing's been really quick because he was only diagnosed just before Christmas."

JACKSON SUED OVER LEGAL FEES

MICHAEL JACKSON's former lawyers are suing the pop superstar for $113,750 (GBP56,875) in unpaid legal fees.

The bosses of legal firm Lavely + Singer filed suit in Los Angeles Superior Court on Tuesday (14Aug07), claiming they set up a payment plan for the Thriller hitmaker to pay off his $180,000 (GBP90,00) debt, but he failed to make the final payment, TMZ.com reports.

In June (07), Jackson was sued by a Delaware law firm for over $100,000 (GBP50,000) in unpaid fees over their negotiations with a concert promoter, who accused the singer of pulling out of two New Year's Eve concerts in 2000.

Lawyers for both BRITNEY SPEARS and her ex-husband KEVIN FEDERLINE joined forces in a Los Angeles courtroom on Tuesday (14Aug07), to ask a judge to keep details of their custody battle secret.

But Los Angeles Superior Court Commissioner Scott Gordon agreed to set a hearing for 14 September (07) so lawyers for American magazine People and local TV station KNBC can argue that Spears and Federline's court records should be made public.

Speaking after the hearing, Spears' lawyer said, "You have got to wonder why the public interest in this case is so great."

Spears and Federline's divorce was finalised last month (30Jul07). At the time, they agreed to joint custody, but Federline has since returned to court seeking further custody following concerns raised in the media about Spears' emotional state and her parenting skills.

PAVAROTTI OPTS TO STAY IN HOSPITAL

LATEST: Opera star LUCIANO PAVAROTTI has decided to remain in a Modena, Italy hospital, despite being given the all-clear by doctors to leave.

The tenor, 71, was admitted to the University Policlinico in northern Italy last Wednesday (08Aug07) after suffering from a fever.

Pavarotti's manager initially said the singer would be checking out of the hospital "imminently", because doctors had "happily given him the go-ahead to leave hospital and resume his summer holiday".

However, his wife Nicoletta Mantovani later told the media outside the hospital that her husband had decided to stay a few days longer because he feels "more tranquil there than at home".

Pavarotti underwent surgery for pancreatic cancer last year (06) and has since had at least five rounds of chemotherapy.

Veteran country star WILLIE NELSON was one of several acts to play a pro-marijuana benefit concert in Austin, Texas on Friday (10Aug07) night.

The 74-year-old performed at Austin Freedom Fest, alongside acts including Asleep At The Wheel. The gig was held to raise funds for four pro-cannabis organisations, including the National Organization For The Reform Of Marijuana Laws (NORML) and the Marijuana Policy Project.

Nelson says, "We would like to see (marijuana) put in the same category as cigarettes and alcohol... where we can take it out of the hands of the illegal drug dealers.

"Empty the cells of all the pot smokers and get them out of jail so you'll have more room for the child molesters and paedophiles out there who they keep releasing to throw pot smokers in.

"The law needs to be changed."

The Young Guns star has agreed to shared custody of their three girls, Lili, seven, and 10-year-old twins Grace and Isabella.

The 45-year-old has also agreed to pay a lump sun of $216,000 (GBP113,000), $7,600 (GBP3,800) per month in child support and $4,500 (GBP2,250) in spousal support to Kelly, who he separated from in 2005.

According to court papers filed in Los Angeles Superior Court on 30 July (07), and which were made public on Tuesday (14Aug07), Phillips must also share a percentage of any future increases in his current annual salary of $600,000 (GBP300,000).

In December (06), Phillips pleaded no contest to charges of abusing his girlfriend Yvonne Boismer - he was sentenced to a year of domestic violence counselling and 200 hours of community service, and was also placed on probation for three years.

WOOD: 'MANSON GOT RID OF MY SHYNESS'

Actress EVAN RACHEL WOOD credits MARILYN MANSON with bringing her out of her shell, insisting she's no longer the timid, shy girl she used to be.

The 19 -year-old and the rocker Manson, 38, met last year (06) while he was still married to now-estranged wife Dita Von Teese, although the couple insist they didn't start dating until his marriage was over.

And Wood is relieved Manson has finally given her the confidence to behave naturally.

She tells American publication GQ, "I was so shy, painfully shy, for so long. For the first time, I really feel like I'm around somebody and in an environment where I can just let go and not worry about being judged."

British actress SIENNA MILLER has reportedly found love with her new co-star, BROTHERS + SISTERS hunk MATTHEW RHYS.

The Alfie star, who split from on/off fiance Jude Law last year (06), fell for the Welsh actor on the set of Dylan Thomas biopic The Edge Of Love.

British newspaper The Sun reports the couple's burgeoning romance was encouraged by their The Edge Of Love co-star Keira Knightley.

A friend says, "This is the first bloke Sienna has been serious with since she finally split from Jude. These vicious allegations of her being with Sean 'Diddy' Combs and splitting up his relationship with Kim Porter are awful. But they have actually worked in her and Matthew's favour a bit. It has taken the heat off their relationship."

Miller split from model Jamie Burke after a brief romance earlier this year (07).

SCHWIMMER IS LOOKING FOR LOVE

Former FRIENDS star DAVID SCHWIMMER is preparing to sacrifice his career in the hope of finding love.

Schwimmer, who has became a successful director since the end of the hit comedy series in 2003, admits he has always put his career before his love life.

But the 40-year-old does not want to grow old alone and is willing to make the ultimate sacrifice.

He tells Britain's Cosmopolitan magazine, "I look at someone like Courteney Cox and see how happy she is, but I've always put work first and now I have no wife and no family.

"My mom would love to see me settled, as she thinks it will make my life complete."

The actor, who spent ten months in London directing Run, Fat Boy, Run last year (06) reveals he will begin looking for a wife in the English capital.

He says, "I do like British girls - especially their sense of humour."

AMERICAN IDOL BROADWAY SHOW CLOSES

A New York musical inspired by hit TV talent show AMERICAN IDOL has closed followings it first official night on Monday (13Aug07).

Idol: The Musical was initially previewed last month (Jul07), but by the end of July, the whole cast had been replaced in time for new previews on 1 August (07).

Producer Todd Ellis released statement explaining the sudden closure; "Due to a lack of advance ticket sales, a lack of positive feedback from audience members and critics and a lack of sustainable financial resources."
