PINK + BASSEY PLAN DUET

Pop star PINK was so impressed by DAME SHIRLEY BASSEY's version of her hit GET THE PARTY STARTED, she is planning a duet with the veteran singer.

Bassey recorded a version of the hit track for an album of the same name earlier this year (Jun07) to celebrate her landmark 70th birthday.

And Pink - real name Alecia Moore - admits she was so pleased with the star's album, he is planning a future collaboration.

She says, "She has a great voice and I have a fantastic idea for a song for both of us."

HOPKINS RECEIVES FILM HONOUR

British actor SIR ANTHONY HOPKINS has won an award for his directing and acting talents at Switzerland's Locarno International Film Festival.

The Silence of the Lambs star was awarded for his work as director of Slipstream, in which he also starred as a tormented German writer.

The award for best actor was shared by Frenchman Michel Piccoli and Italian Michele Venitucci, while best actress was awarded to Spanish star Marian Alvares.

Japanese film Ai No Yokan (the Rebirth) - a love story about the mother of a murderer and the father of the victim - won the best film category.

British comedy Death at a Funeral, with real-life couple Matthew Macfadyen and Keeley Hawes, won the public prize and French director Philippe Ramos collected the prize for best script for Capitaine Achab (Captain Ahab).

A jury chaired by Swiss actress Irene Jacob picked the winners for a ceremony which concluded Locarno's 60th international film festival.

NERVOUS LOPEZ TOUCHED BY PUERTO RICAN RECEPTION TO FILM

JENNIFER LOPEZ was a bag of nerves when she and husband MARC ANTHONY hosted the premiere of their new film EL CANTANTE in Puerto Rico.

The couple, whose parents all hail from the old country, decided to stage a star-studded opening for the Hector Lavoe biopic - because that's where the late salsa legend came from.

But Lopez feared the idea was a terrible one as she sat in the audience at the premiere.

She explains, "It was always our dream to debut the film in Puerto Rico because it is a Latino story, it is a Puerto Rican story.

"It was great to just go there and see the reception and feel it. We showed the movie and there was tons of fans outside. I was kind of white-knuckled the whole time during the screening.

"I was holding Marc's hand like, `Oh my God, how are they gonna like it?'

"Right at the end of the film, the first person stood up, the second person... and we got a standing ovation at the end of the movie. It was so overwhelming we got tears in our eyes. It was very moving."

BRANSON HUMOURED BY MOSS ROMP RUMOUR

Virgin boss RICHARD BRANSON was tempted not to deny a bogus romantic report linking him to supermodel KATE MOSS because it was a 'good rumour'.

The entrepreneur was reported in British newspaper News of the World to have had an affair with Moss as they holidayed on his island in the Caribbean - Necker Island - where it was also alleged that Rolling Stone Keith Richards snorted cocaine off her stomach.

Of the allegations, he says, "It was unfortunately completely untrue but I did ponder whether I should be denying it, because it's a good rumour!"

Instead, Moss hooked up with model/singer Jamie Burke, best friend to Branson's son Sam.

He admits, "She has been on holiday with us a few times. The last time, she ended up with Jamie (Burke), Sam's best friend, who since then seems to have gone through about four more famous actresses. He's obviously got something!"

FRANKLIN CANCELS U.S. GIG

Soul singer ARETHA FRANKLIN has cancelled her homecoming concert in Michigan citing heat exhaustion.

The Respect hitmaker was scheduled to play in Detroit on Sunday evening (12Aug07), but was forced to call off the concert after weather forecasters predicted sunshine and highs of 30 degree Celsius (86 degree Fahrenheit).

The veteran star says two recent outdoor gigs had been "sweltering and all but overwhelming" and could not "tolerate heat in these extremely high numbers and being in concert simultaneously".

Franklin adds she hopes the Detroit event would be rescheduled.

COWELL BREAKS SIX-YEAR-OLD GIRL'S HEART

British music mogul SIMON COWELL has broken the heart of a six-year-old girl after he went back on his decision to make her a superstar.

Connie Talbot wowed U.K. viewers on TV show Britain's Got Talent after singing Somewhere Over The Rainbow in June (07).

And Cowell was so impressed he vowed to give the six-year-old a recording deal, saying, "Of course a record deal with Sony BMG (his label) is on the cards. I'll make a prediction that Connie will sell more records than Joss Stone this year."

However, Talbot's father Gavin says, "Connie isn't singing for Sony BMG anymore.

"Despite what we were initially told, Simon and his management team have changed their minds.

"We were worried about telling Connie the bad news. She had her heart set on working with Simon. The look on her face was a sheer disappointment. Obviously she was upset."

Former BOYZONE star SHANE LYNCH has married his long term partner SHEENA WHITE at a low key ceremony.

KANYE COMES TO LILY'S RESCUE

Hip-hop star KANYE WEST has come to the aid of British pop star LILY ALLEN by offering to fly her back to the U.K. in his private jet after visa troubles have plagued her latest trip to the U.S.

The unlikely pair have struck up a close friendship since teaming up to film rapper Common's new single Drivin' Me Wild.

West heard the young singer was feeling down after problems with her U.S. working visa and so offered her first class treatment on his private jet which lands at the Harrods VIP entrance at London's Heathrow airport.

An insider told British newspaper the Daily Star, "They've struck up a real bond since working on the Common album. Kanye was the person who introduced Common to Lily's music as he rates her so highly. When he heard Lily had been through a load of hassle about her working visa, Kanye wanted to cheer her up by giving her the chance to return to the U.K. in style."

TV TITAN MERV GRIFFIN DEAD AT 82

Beloved U.S. TV pioneer MERV GRIFFIN has died after a battle with prostate cancer. He was 82.

Griffin, the brains behind game shows like Jeopardy and Wheel Of Fortune, spent over 60 years at the forefront of television in America, joking his motto was, "If it's not broke, fix it anyway. Keep changing."

The TV mogul started out as one of the first U.S. talk show hosts, fronting The Merv Griffin Show for 21 years - from 1965 to 1986 - and interviewing then unknowns like Arnold Schwarzenegger, Denzel Washington and Tom Hanks.

On his website, Griffin boasted he had hosted 5,500 shows and interviewed more than 25,000 guests.

He also enjoyed pop chart success as a band leader - his novelty song I've Got A Lovely Bunch of Coconuts took Griffin and partner Freddy Martin to the top of the charts in 1950.

After conquering the television landscape, Griffin became a successful hotelier, developing luxury hotels throughout America, including the Beverly Hilton Hotel in Los Angeles.

Griffin died at Cedars Sinai Medical Center in Los Angeles on Sunday morning (12Aug07). He is survived by a son, Tony Griffin, a daughter-in-law Tricia, and two grandchildren, Farah and Donovan Mervyn.

RATNER CHOOSES PARIS FOR RUSH HOUR 3 TO APPEASE BATTLING STARS

Moviemaker BRETT RATNER moved the location to RUSH HOUR 3 to Paris, France because his stars didn't want to shoot the film on their native continents.

Film star Jackie Chan admits he was all set to pack his bags and head for Hawaii until co-star Chris Tucker urged Ratner to reconsider the setting and move filming to Bangkok, Thailand.

Chan reveals, "For Rush Hour 3 the first draw was Hawaii. Hawaii is good for me, but Chris refused: 'No, we're in America.'

"I said to Chris, 'Where do you want to go?' and he said, 'I want to go to Bangkok.' I'm the Asian boy, so Bangkok, no. I refused.

"So then Brett Ratner said, 'OK, let's go to Paris.' Then we both agreed that Paris is good."

EDITING SAVES MCAVOY'S BALLROOM BLUSHES

Scottish actor JAMES McAVOY was stunned by the ballroom dance scenes in his new period movie BECOMING JANE - because editors made it look like he knew what he was doing.

The clumsy actor admits he spent much of the dancing scenes treading on co-star Anne Hathaway's feet, and feared he'd be replaced by a dancing double.

He says, "I think we looked pretty good in the film but there was a lot of fancy editing if I'm being honest. Anne wasn't too bad for that, she was pretty sharp, but I did tread on her toes quite a lot.

"Ironically, Laurence Fox's character was supposed to step on Anne's toes a lot and he was a rather good dancer. I was very bad."

PRINCE ANGERS FANS WITH 'NO SHOW'

PRINCE has angered fans by failing to appear at the official aftershow following his London concert on Sunday (12Aug07).

The superstar was due to appear at the capital's Indigo2 venue after his concert at the O2 Arena, with many of his fans purchasing tickets for the aftershow event for up to GBP75 ($150).

But the singer's website states he may not appear at the aftershow party, claiming "the band usually opts to rest" and Prince would not be playing at Friday night's "aftershow".

However, fans on chat forums such as prince.org and housequake.com have alleged these messages were not prominently displayed when they booked tickets and had the impression that these "aftershow" events were further Prince concerts.

The star is currently enjoying a 21-night tour, playing sets of about two hours in length in the main O2 arena.

SPEARS ASSISTANT SERVED WITH FEDERLINE PAPERS AT PARTY

BRITNEY SPEARS' re-hired assistant, ALLY SIMS, was served with court papers early on Sunday morning (12Aug07) at a house party.

Life + Style magazine reports Sims, who is also Spears' cousin, was "absolutely angry" by the intrusion, initiated by the lawyer representing the pop star's ex-husband Kevin Federline in the couple's upcoming custody battle.

The publication claims the legal documents call for Sims to reveal what she knows about Spears' parenting skills and questions about the Toxic singer's drinking and partying habits.

Just last month (Jul07), it was believed Sims was helping the Federline camp as they prepared for a custody battle after quitting Spears' employ over fears for the singer's sons.

Sims has since slammed those reports, insisting her cousin is a great mother.

WINEHOUSE'S FATHER: 'I FEAR FOR AMY'S LIFE'

AMY WINEHOUSE's father has urged his pop star daughter to seek professional help following her recent health scare.

The singer was rushed to a London hospital on Thursday (09Aug07) reportedly caused by exhaustion and has been advised by medics to cancel a string of gigs allowing her time to recuperate.

But the star's father Mitch has expressed grave concern over his daughter's lifestyle and skeletal appearance.

He says, "She is skinny as anything and dehydrated and looks like she has just come from a concentration camp.

"She is barely eating. She is not sleeping. I try to get her to eat but that is easier said than done.

"I know that if she doesn't eat she is going to die. There is no reason for her to want to self-destruct like this."
