HIV MEDICS INSPIRE HOLLYWOOD MOVIE

The six medics convicted of starting an HIV epidemic in Libya have inspired a Hollywood movie based on their harrowing eight-year ordeal.

The health officials - comprising five Bulgarian nurses and a Palestinian doctor - were sentenced to death following a conviction of deliberately injecting 460 Libyan children with the virus in 1998. More than 50 of those infected have since died.

However, after maintaining they were tortured into their confessions, the group was freed last month (24Jul07) when the European Union brokered a deal with authorities in the North African country.

They've now signed over rights to a big screen retelling of their story to Sixth Sense Productions, the company behind Oscar-nominated genocide drama Hotel Rwanda.

The firm is in talks with The Chronicles of Narnia screenplay writer Ann Peacock to come up with a script for movie, tentatively titled The Benghazi Six.
