LIL' WAYNE AND JA RULE RELEASED FROM JAIL, PROTEST INNOCENCE
LATEST: Rappers LIL' WAYNE and JA RULE have been released on bail following their separate weekend arrests in New York on weapons charges.
LIL' WAYNE
Lil' Wayne - real name Dwayne Michael Carter Jr - was arrested in Manhattan shortly after his performance at the Beacon Theater on Sunday night (22Jul07).
Police claim Carter was found carrying a .40 calibre pistol after he was stopped for smoking marijuana, while another associate was found attempting to flush 0.5 pounds (227 grams) of the drug down the toilet.
Carter was released on Monday (23Jul07) on $70,000 (GBP35,000) bond.
Meanwhile, the Always On Time star - real name Jeffrey Atkins - and two associates were arrested in Manhattan on Sunday for speeding, and a search of their vehicle uncovered a .40 calibre pistol.
He was charged with gun possession and released on $150,000 (GBP75,000) bond on Monday, using his mansion in Saddle Brook, New Jersey, as collateral for the $320,000 (GBP160,000) combined bail for he and his two associates.
After his release, Atkins told reporters: "Everybody wants to point fingers at hip-hop for the destruction of America's youth. If you need to know why there is so much crime, corruption, hatred and violence, you need only look at yourselves."
Lawyer Stacey Richman, who represented both hip-hop stars, claims her clients are innocent and were punished with higher bail bonds because of their celebrity status.
She tells SOHH.com, "We absolutely maintain that we are not guilty of these charges."
The two Universal artists could each be sentenced for up to three-and-a-half years behind bars if they are found guilty of the weapons offences.
They are due back in court on Friday (27Jul07).

CHAMILLIONAIRE has refused to respond to disparaging remarks made about the rapper by 50 CENT, because he believes the G-UNIT star is just using the war of words as a 'gimmick'.

50 Cent - real name Curtis Jackson - attacked the Ridin' Dirty hitmaker in a recent issue of U.S. magazine Spin, in which he criticised his rival for bowing to public pressure to censor rap music.
He said: "Let him (Chamillionaire) go sell gospel records, if he's so f**kin' righteous. I can write around the curses if I want to, but you can't tell me to write around the curses."
But Chamillionaire - born Hakeem Seriki - insists he is not intimidated by such attention-grabbing comments by the In Da Club star.
He tells AllHipHop.com, "There are way more interesting things to talk about, besides beef and dissing people.
"I'm a leave that to everybody else. There was a time were the hip-hop battle was cool, cause it was lyrical or whatever, but now, its stale, people used it as a gimmick."

DALTREY ATTACKS BRITISH GOVERNMENT OVER ROYALTY LAW
THE WHO's ROGER DALTREY has launched a stinging attack on the British government, accusing Prime Minister Gordon Brown of failing to look after the country's musicians by protecting their royalties.

The rocker, 63, is angry the Department of Culture has rejected calls to extend the period of time during which musicians are entitled to receive royalty payments for the songs they write.
Under current U.K. law, artists are allowed to claim royalties for 50 years, while authors, playwrights and composers are entitled to copyright protection for their whole lives - and 70 years after their passing.
And Daltrey insists the royalty extension is a necessity for ageing stars like himself.
He says, "Thousands of musicians have no pensions and rely on royalties to support themselves.
"They aren't asking for a hand-out, just a fair reward for their endeavours."

MADONNA CHASTISES RUDE CREWMEMBER
Pop superstar MADONNA hit out at the crew on the set of husband GUY RITCHIE's new film ROCKNROLLA, after a member of staff referred to their adopted son David Banda as 'Lucky B**tard', according to reports.

The Material Girl and the moviemaker adopted the tot from a Malawian orphanage in October (06), and Madonna proved how protective a mother she is to the now two-year-old child when she chastised the female crewmember for the offending comment.
The incident took place after one set worker asked what the toddler's name was, to which the girl replied, "Lucky B**tard".
A source tells British newspaper the Daily Mirror, "Madonna looked astonished by what was said and words were exchanged between them.
"(She) seemed very protective of her son and didn't want anyone talking of him in such a manner.
"At the end of the day, she's just a mum and doesn't want anyone speaking ill of her family. She looked really hurt and shocked by the comment and let her feelings be made known."
A spokesperson for the film refused to comment on the alleged incident.

LIL' FLIP: 'I'M THE VICTIM OF A SCAM'
Rapper LIL' FLIP has protested his innocence in his recent arrest for alleged credit card abuse, insisting he is "a victim of a scam".
The hip-hop star - real name Wesley Weston - was reprimanded in his hometown of Houston, Texas, on Saturday (21Jul07) after turning himself into authorities at Harris County Courthouse.
Weston, who was released on $2,000 (GBP1,000) bond, is accused of purchasing $671 (GBP335.50)-worth of plane tickets from Houston to Baltimore, Maryland, with a stolen credit card.
But the Game Over hitmaker denies any wrongdoing and claims he has been set up.
His manager Sandy Lal tells AllHipHop.com, "Flip had absolutely no involvement with any sort of credit card fraud.
"He never personally handles any travel arrangements, that is left to promoters and travel agents. Any wrongdoing of any sort (is) clearly in their hands."
His attorney, Stanley Schneider, adds, "Lil' Flip nor anyone associated with him had any knowledge that (a) stolen credit card was being used by a person hired to arrange his travel.
"A complete investigation will easily show that Lil' Flip is innocent."

BRITNEY SPEARS' silver sports utility vehicle (SUV) and the umbrella she used to attack paparazzi earlier this year (07) have been put up for sale on auction website eBay - for a starting price of $25,000 (GBP12,500).

CRUZ'S L'OREAL ADVERT UNDER FIRE
Cosmetics giant L'Oreal has been reprimanded by British advertising watchdogs for its 'misleading' mascara advertisements fronted by sexy Spaniard PENELOPE CRUZ.

The TV and magazine adverts promoting L'Oreal's new Telescopic mascara claim the product boosts the length of women's eyelashes by up to 60 per cent.
The Advertising Standards Authority (ASA) was forced to step in after it was discovered the acting beauty had been wearing additional false eyelashes for the shoot.
But the French make-up firm has defended itself against the accusations, claiming it is "common practice" to use fake lashes.
A spokesman for L'Oreal says, "It is common industry practice to make use of some artificial lashes in order to ensure a consistent lash line under filming or shooting conditions - the ASA had previously accepted on more than one occasion that this industry practice was not misleading."
L'Oreal has been ordered to clarify the discrepancy and place a disclaimer on all future Telescopic advertising campaigns.

LINDSAY LOHAN 'ARRESTED FOR DUI'
LINDSAY LOHAN was arrested in Santa Monica, California in the early hours of Tuesday morning (24Jul07) for allegedly driving under the influence of alcohol.

Cops stopped the star at 2.15am (PCT), according to TMZ.com. It's the actress' second DUI arrest in less than a year - just last week (ends20Jul07) she was charged by police for a DUI crash in May (07), and she is due back in court on 24 August to face charges of misdemeanour hit and run and having a blood alcohol level greater than .08.
The arrest also comes just a week after the star ended a 45 day spell in rehab.
After Lohan - who only reached the legal drinking age of 21 earlier this month (Jul07) - left the Promises Center in Malibu, she vowed to stay sober and has been wearing an ankle bracelet that monitors the wearer's alcohol intake.
A press conference is expected to confirm the reports. Lohan is due to attend the premiere of her new movie I Know Who Killed Me on Wednesday night (25Jul07).

PARENTS CUT TIES WITH GRAHAM AFTER BOOGIE NIGHTS SHOCK
Actress HEATHER GRAHAM's religious parents were so horrified when they saw their daughter playing a porn star in BOOGIE NIGHTS, they disowned her.

Graham admits her mum and dad had no idea what to expect from her role as Rollergirl in the film - and were so shocked they severed contact with her.
She says, "They didn't really want to hear my point of view, and thought that, because I took the part, then I was like that in real life.
"It would be nice if I did have a good relationship with my family, and yes, part of me longs to have a mum and dad who love and accept me for who I am. But if they never do, it's OK."

LATEST: Bollywood star SHILPA SHETTY has denied reports she was involved in the breakdown of her business partner's marriage, insisting she is not a homewrecker.

The Phir Milenge actress, 32, was recently romantically linked to British-based entrepreneur Raj Kundra, and his wife Kavita has blamed her marriage split on his close relationship with Shetty.
But Shetty has maintained her relationship with Kundra has always been strictly platonic, despite Kavita's claims her husband was "obsessed" with the star.
Shetty says, "My understanding is that the marriage ended a year ago."

Funnyman ROB SCHNEIDER replaced troubled LINDSAY LOHAN on THE TONIGHT SHOW WITH JAY LENO on Tuesday night (24Jul07) - dressed as the actress.

The comedian stepped in to appear on the late night show at the last minute after Lohan pulled out of an appearance following her drink driving arrest on Tuesday morning (24Jul07).
And, as WENN went to press, Schneider was trying on outfits so he could dress in drag - as Lohan - for his appearance on the show.

YAYO REJECTS JAIL DEAL
Rapper TONY YAYO has rejected an offer of a nine month jail spell in exchange for pleading guilty to assaulting a teenager.
In March (07), the G-Unit star - real name Marvin Bernard - was charged with assault, harassment and endangering the welfare of a child after reportedly lashing out at 14-year-old James Rosemond, the son of The Game's manager Jimmy Rosemond.
Yayo has pleaded not guilty to the charges and is free on $5,000 (GBP2,500) bail.
His lawyer, Scott Leemon says, "It's not even a good offer for a guilty person, and Tony denies the allegations absolutely."
The case has been adjourned until 6 September (07).

THEATRE DIRECTOR TABORI DIES
Screenwriter and theatre director GEORGE TABORI has died. He was 93.
The Hungarian-born star passed away at his home in Berlin, Germany, on Monday (23Jul07) after suffering from a long illness.
Tabori moved to London in 1935 when he was 21-years-old, and he soon began working for the BBC.
After World War Two, he moved to the U.S., where he found work as a translator before becoming a screenwriter, working on movies like Alfred Hitchcock's I Confess in 1953 and The Young Lovers, for which he and his co-writer, Robin Estridge, were awarded a BAFTA for Best British Screenplay in 1955.
Tabori was also highly respected as a theatre director, and his 1983 production of Samuel Beckett's Waiting for Godot in Munich, Germany, is considered one of his biggest and best plays.
At the time of his death, Tabori was hoping to direct a stage version of Shakespeare's King Lear.
Referring to his final work, Charles Peymann, the director of the Berliner Ensemble theatre, says, "We are all terribly sad. It is as though King Lear has left the stage."

THE SOPRANOS stars TONY SIRICO and STEVE SCHIRIPPA are to portray SESAME STREET regulars BERT + ERNIE as part of the childrens show's Christmas (07) special.
Dreamgirls co-stars Jamie Foxx and Jennifer Hudson and Ben Stiller will also take part in the one-hour holiday show.
Alicia Keys, Sheryl Crow and Brad Paisley will perform Christmas tunes on the programme, which will air in America in December (07).
