PHOTOGRAPHER CLAIMS DIANA PHOTO 'THEFT'

One of the last pictures ever taken of late British royal DIANA, PRINCESS OF WALES, has been stolen from police files, according to the French photographer who took it.

Fabrice Chassery claims a picture depicting Diana slumped in the back seat of the black Mercedes which crashed in Paris in 1997 has been illegally lifted from files and reproduced without his permission.

His lawyer Jean-Louis Pelletier says, "We are able to prove that this photograph belongs to Mr Chassery. There are people who are fraudulently using this photograph or duplicates of it."

Among those accused of reproducing the photo without permission are U.S. television network CBS, British broadcasting network Channel 4 and a French journalist who used it on the cover of a book.

Diana died as a result of the injuries she suffered in the crash.
