MELLY CREMATED IN CARTOON COFFIN
Jazz singer GEORGE MELLY has been cremated in a cardboard coffin covered in pictures of cartoons.
Friends of the music legend scribbled drawings and pasted photographs on the recycled box to mark his life at a funeral service on Friday (13Jul07).
The 80-year-old, who was known for his flamboyant style, lost his battle with lung cancer earlier this month (05Jul07).
His widow, Diana made mourners laugh at the ceremony by joking, "As George lay dying, three girlfriends came on the same day - but not at the same time!"
