OPERA SINGER CRESPIN DIES

French opera singer REGINE CRESPIN has died. She was 80.

The star died in a hospital in Paris, her record company EMI announced on Thursday (05Jul07), but the cause of death was not given.

Crespin made her singing debut in 1948 playing the role of Charlotte in Massenet's opera Werther.

French Culture Minister Christine Albanel says, "Regine Crespin was a diva."
