Stars including SIR MICHAEL CAINE and SIR TIM RICE are backing an online petition to make veteran singer PETULA CLARK a dame.
The 74-year-old performer is the most successful British female solo recording artist to date, but her huge success has yet to be recognised by royalty with a title.
Her celebrity fans have lent their signatures to a petition on Prime Minister GORDON BROWN's Downing Street website in an attempt to change her fortunes.
A source says, "It is a travesty that Petula has not yet been honoured after such a long and distinguished career.
"The fact that these big names are lending their support shows how much she is regarded."
