Comic book superhero CAPTAIN AMERICA is to be laid to rest in a new Marvel comic released in America this week (05Jul07).
After 66 years of battling villains like Adolf Hitler, Marvel bosses decided it was time to kill off the colourful patriot.
The new comic will feature images of the character's funeral at Arlington National Cemetery in Washington, D.C., where pallbearers Iron Man, the Black Panther, the Fantastic Four's Ben Grimm and Ms. Marvel carry his casket to its final resting place.
Captain America was assassinated on the steps of a New York federal courthouse in a recent issue of Marvel comics.
Comic book writer Joseph Loeb reveals he used the death of his teenage son from cancer to create Captain America's final sombre episode.
Loeb says, "So many people have lost their sons and daughters over the years, for the greater good or to cancer or other horrible things.
"I wanted this to be something people would identify with."
