SIR ELTON MOURNS DIANA WITH PRINCES

SIR ELTON JOHN was left in tears after reminiscing with British royals PRINCE WILLIAM and PRINCE HARRY about their late mother Diana, Princess of Wales.

The Rocket Man star - who opened the Concert For Diana on Sunday (01Jul07) - enjoyed a close friendship with the late princess, and is glad they have chosen to celebrate what would have been their mother's 46th birthday with the public.

Speaking before the concert at London's Wembley Stadium, Sir Elton admitted he had shed a few tears with the young princes when they shared their fond memories of Diana.

He said, "They are taking it very seriously and doing it from their heart. When they first contacted me about this concert we were talking about Diana for hours and we were all crying. She was such a wonderful lady."

The Concert For Diana has already seen performances from Duran Duran, Sir Tom Jones, Lily Allen and Rod Stewart, and John is expected to close the gig with a rare rendition of his 1997 version of Candle In The Wind.

The princess died in a Paris, France car crash in 1997.
