BASSEY 'TOO LAZY' FOR OPERA

Veteran singer DAME SHIRLEY BASSEY nearly became an opera singer - but admits she was too lazy to put in the practice.

The Goldfinger hitmaker - who has performed the title songs for three James Bond movies - was put off by the gruelling training regime required of opera singers and chose to stick with her trademark big band music instead..

She says, "My vocal coach said if I'd had the right training, I could have been an opera singer. I would have been a contralto, not a soprano.

"I'd have been a good candidate but I'm basically very lazy, and opera singers have to train every day."
