MEXICAN POP SUPERSTAR AGUILAR DEAD AT 88

Beloved Mexican mariachi singer and actor ANTONIO AGUILAR died on Tuesday (19Jun07) after a lengthy battle with pneumonia.

The star, who recorded more than 150 albums, was 88.

Born in Zacatecas, Aguilar recorded with his traditional mariachi group for 50 years and sold more than 25 million records.

His hits included Albur de Amor and Puno de Tierra.

He also appeared in 167 films, including The Undefeated opposite John Wayne.

Aguilar received a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame in 2000.

His son is Pepe Aguilar, one of today's biggest names in Mexican pop.
