SQUIRE QUITS GUITAR FOR PAINTING

Former STONE ROSES rocker JOHN SQUIRE has quit playing music so he can concentrate on painting.

The guitar virtuoso hasn't played his instrument this year (07).

Squire is exhibiting a new collection of large canvas paintings and mixed media works which he has developed over the last three years at The Smithfield Gallery in London next month (Jul07).

He says, "I've not played guitar this year.

"When I made the quantum leap to actually call myself a painter for the first time, that really got in the way of the music. I got halfway through an album and hung up my plectrum."
