Former supermodel CHRISTIE BRINKLEY was "very, very close" to being paralysed and losing a leg before she underwent an emergency operation on her back in February (07).
The 53-year-old suffered her injury during a skiing accident in December (06), but it wasn't until two months later her serious spine injury was detected.
Brinkley says, "I was really lucky. They said I was very, very close to severing my spinal cord.
"I could have lost my leg. The doctor said unless I did the surgery immediately, I would only have a 30 per cent chance of the leg recovering."
