LATEST: SIR PAUL McCARTNEY is regretting calling Wales "a Third World country" - as his Welsh aunt is not happy at his remarks.
The former Beatle made the gaffe last week (ends01Jun07) while joking with fellow British musician, Kaiser Chiefs rocker Ricky Wilson.
He told Wilson he is never recognised by fans in poorer countries and added, "Well, Wales is a Third World country. (But) we love Welsh people by the way...especially my Auntie Dilys."
But Dilys is not happy at her famous nephew's words, saying, "Yes, I read what Paul had to say about the Welsh and I'm going to pull him up on it the next time I speak to him. He's not going to get away with it. But it's not the first time he had a go at Wales.
"When he calls, he pokes fun at my Welsh accent but I give him back, reminding him of his working-class roots."
However, Dilys recognises the Hey Jude star was speaking in jest, adding, "When Paul says something it makes headlines but he only means it as a joke."
