STUBBS DEFENDS HUSBAND

British actress IMOGEN STUBBS has leaped to the defence of her director husband SIR TREVOR NUNN after critics panned him for delaying a press night for his Royal Shakespeare Company production of KING LEAR.

Nunn waited nine weeks before allowing journalists to see the show in Stratford-upon-Avon on Thursday (31May07). The original press night was abandoned when one of the lead actors was hospitalised following a road accident.

Nunn was branded a "fool" for the delay, but his Sense and Sensibility actress wife insists the reports were totally undeserved.

Stubbs says, "Incensed journalists up and down the country cried 'outrage' and there were headlines such as 'Nunn on the run'.

"My husband hasn't uttered a syllable in print and has done nothing to be worthy of such bile. These things hurt."

Nunn says the decision to hold off on the press night for King Lear was made by the RSC's artistic director, Michael Boyd.
