PIRATES SEQUEL RAIDS MEMORIAL DAY WEEKEND TREASURE CHEST

PIRATES OF THE CARIBBEAN: AT WORLD'S END has broken the U.S. box-office record for best Memorial Day weekend debut, after making $142.1 million (GBP71.05 million).

Geoffrey Rush, Keira Knightley and Johnny Depp in 'Pirates of the Caribbean: At World's End'

The second sequel scored $115.1 million (GBP57.55 million) between Friday (25May07) and Sunday (27May07), falling short of last summer's (06) $135.6 million (GBP67.8 million) opening weekend take for Pirates sequel Dead Man's Chest.

However, At World's End beat last year's (06) four-day Friday to Monday Memorial Day weekend opening record, which was set at $122.9 million (GBP61.45 million) by X-Men: The Last Stand.
