BONNET TOLD TO STOP TOURING AS ALCATRAZZ
Ex-RAINBOW star GRAHAM BONNET has been served a cease-and-desist missive from former members of his latest group ALCATRAZZ, because he has refused to acknowledge their intellectual property rights on a new tour.
Group founders Jimmy Waldo, Gary Shea and Jan Uvena claim the singer's decision to tour as Alcatrazz is in violation of an agreement the quartet reached.
In the suit, obtained by website Blabbermouth.net, the plaintiffs charge they have "registered the trademark for the band name with the United States Patent and Trademark Office."
Firing off at British-born Bonnet, they rage, "The fact that you would attempt to hold yourself and your new band members out as Alcatrazz reflects both a remarkable hubris and also an utter disregard of trademark law.
"For years, Waldo, Shea and Uvena have performed and sold albums as members of the band Alcatrazz. They have never transferred to you any rights in the name Alcatrazz, nor are you the registered owner of the trademark."
The cease-and-desist suit comes as Bonnet's Alcatrazz, featuring guitarist Howie Simon, drummer Glen Sobel and bassist Tim Luce, prepares for a Japanese tour this week (begs28May07).
