RECOVERING ALCOHOLIC URBAN OFFERED WINE ON FLIGHT

Bosses at Australian airline Qantas have apologised after a male air steward presented recovering alcoholic KEITH URBAN with a bottle of wine during a flight from Sydney to Adelaide.

The gaffe occurred as Urban, who spent over three months in rehab fighting his drinking demons earlier this year (07), was on his way to a concert on Sunday (20May07).

The honest mistake, highlighted onboard the flight by the country star's bodyguard, would have been forgotten had Urban decided not to tell fans about the clueless steward during his Sunday night show at the Adelaide Entertainment Centre.

He joked, "I knew I was back in South Australia when the host came up to me, smiled, gave me a bottle of red and said, 'Welcome to Adelaide, Mr. Urban.'"

His comments were reported overnight in the local media, prompting red-faced Qantas bosses to do a little explaining.

A spokesman says, "This was a customer relations gesture by an individual staff member who genuinely did not realise who the passenger was."
