Country music veteran MEL TILLIS is to become the newest member of the Grand Ole Opry next month (Jun07) during a formal induction ceremony led by his daughter.

Opry member Bill Anderson extended the invitation to join the exclusive country club last weekend (12May07) after Tillis had performed on the Opry's long-running radio show.

The 74-year-old will be inducted into the Opry by his daughter, singer/songwriter Pam Tillis, who herself has been an Opry member since 2000.

Tillis has been writing and recording hits, including country classic Ruby, Don't Take Your Love To Town, since the late 1950s.
