SPECTOR INSISTS HE IS INNOCENT ON VIDEO TAPE

A video tape in which music producer PHIL SPECTOR insists he is innocent of the 2003 murder of actress Lana Clarkson aired on US TV last night (16May07).

Spector shot the footage in 2005 with the idea of airing it online to get across his side of the story. Instead, it made its premiere on television show Inside Edition yesterday.

A visibly shaking Spector, who may have been suffering the side-effects of medication, can be seen sitting in a chair in the same room in his Alhambra, California mansion where Clarkson was shot.

He says, "She may have accidentally taken her own life. She may have purposefully taken her own life. She may have been eating the gun with her dancing...

"I don't know why, when, how or where in what circumstance. She may have taken her own life - whether she planned to or not. It is not my responsibility to do that."

Spector then discusses various relationships he's had with women.

He says, "I had all kinds of relationships with them for years afterwards of the dates they say I put a gun to their head... It's nonsense. They just want to get on Inside Edition... They just want to testify at the trial. And, they just want to make money."

The producer then offers $100,000 (GBP50,000) for these women to take a lie detector test.

Spector is accused of fatally shooting Clarkson in February 2003. He has pleaded not guilty and claims she committed suicide.

The trial continues.
