Campaigning rocker BOB GELDOF has branded AL GORE's forthcoming LIVE EARTH concert as 'just an enormous pop concert' - and lacking any concrete measures to fight global warming.
The series of worldwide gigs, on 7 July (07), have been organised to combat climate change, but the singer - who organised Live Aid in 1985 to raise money for famine victims in Ethiopia, and follow-up concert Live 8 in 2005 - has slammed the politician-turned-environmental activist for the 'emptiness' of the event.
He says, "I hope they're a success. But why is (Gore) actually organizing them? To make us aware of the greenhouse effect? Everybody's known about that problem for years. We are all f**king conscious of global warming.
"I would only organize (Live Earth) if I could go on stage and announce concrete environmental measures from the American presidential candidates, Congress or major corporations. They haven't got those guarantees, so it's just an enormous pop concert or the umpteenth time that, say, Madonna or Coldplay get up on stage."
Geldof also took issue with the event's name, saying, "It sounds like Live Aid. We're getting lots of responses from people who think we are organising it."
The Live 8 concerts will take place in London; New York; Tokyo, Japan; Shanghai, China; Johannesburg, South Africa; Sydney, Australia; and Rio de Janeiro, Brazil.
