CANNES TO CELEBRATE OLIVIER BIRTH CENTENARY

Cannes Film Festival is to celebrate 100 years since the birth of SIR LAURENCE OLIVIER by screening a trilogy of his three Shakespearean epics.

Baron Olivier produced, directed and starred in Henry V, Hamlet and Richard III, with all three having been restored by British media company Granada International over a period of a year.

Organisers for the festival have announced plans to show the films, which will celebrate the centenary of the actor's birth.

Fiona Maxwell, of Granada International, says, "We are very proud to be investing in protecting the history of British film. Olivier is one of our greats, both as actor and director. Behind the scenes, we are calling this 'Trilogy in Tights'."
