LAW + ORDER: SVU EXEC REPRIMANDED FOR RACISM ON SET

An executive producer of hit US TV show LAW + ORDER: SVU has been accused of making racist and sexist remarks towards members of the filming crew - reportedly telling one man to "go back to the Caribbean".

Producer TED KOTCHEFF is also under fire for often referring to Asian-American members of the crew as "Chinamen", and calling another member 'Stepin Fetchit' - the stage name of late American comedian Lincoln Perry, who frequently depicted the stereotypical simple-minded black man in his film roles.

But staff on set of the US legal drama are angry with Kotcheff's blatant disregard for political correctness, which has allegedly spanned the last three years (04-07), and have filed formal complaints to broadcasters NBC Universal Television via their workers' union.

President of the International Association of Theatrical Stage Employees (IATSE), Thomas Short, says, "This kind of racist and sexist behaviour is unacceptable in today's workplace.

"We're here to protect our members, and when a network or studio ignores repeated requests to discipline those who are accused of these actions, the message they are sending is very clear. They don't care."

A spokesman for the television network say they are taking the claims "very seriously", but refused to issue an official statement about the matter.
