US SOAP SCRAPS HOSTAGE PLOT

An upcoming storyline in hit US soap ONE LIFE TO LIVE has been scrapped because it involves a college campus hostage situation, which producers felt would upset the families of those killed in the recent (Apr07) Virginia Tech massacre.

The plot, which was written and filmed last month (Mar07), was due to air in May (07) on television network ABC.

It featured a storyline revolving around a suicidal teenager, played by Jonathan Groff, who takes a group of students hostage, holding them at gunpoint.

An ABC spokesman says, "In light of the recent tragic events, ABC Daytime has pulled the story that affected 17 different episodes and is working to re-write, re-tape, re-edit and entirely re-work the show in order to deal with this story in the most sensitive way possible."

Last week (16Apr07), English student Cho Seung-Hui killed 32 people in a shooting attack and then turned the gun on himself in what was the deadliest mass school shooting in modern American history.
