Russian cellist MSTISLAV ROSTROPOVICH has been admitted to hospital after falling seriously ill.
The musician's spokeswoman Nataliya Dollexhal confirmed the 80-year-old star had been hospitalised earlier this month (Apr07) for a routine procedure at Moscow's Blokhim cancer institute, but refused to comment on his latest health deterioration.
However, a source at the Moscow opera school founded by Rostropovich's wife, Galina Vishnevskaya, says, "Last week (he) was again transferred from a sanatorium to a hospital because he is in a serious condition."
