Superstar MADONNA flew out of Malawi on a London-bound private jet yesterday (22Apr07), wrapping up her six-day trip to the country where she toured several orphanages, including one she has helped to fund through her Raising Malawi organisation.
The Material Girl, who was joined by her daughter Lourdes and adopted 18-month-old son David for the visit, last week (20Apr07) urged the African nation to be independent and not rely on her for their livelihood.
But residents in the area of Masekese hope Madonna's tour will help to put Malawi on the map, and encourage other wealthy stars to invest in the impoverished country.
Local gardener Mest Sinati says, "I am quite sure many people outside the country started to know about Malawi because of her.
"People who have money to spare should emulate her example of helping poor people like us."
