TSOTSI actor PRESLEY CHWENEYAGAE has been fined 5,000 rand ($714/GBP366) after being found guilty of fraud in a Pretoria, South Africa court yesterday (18Apr07).
The 22-year-old star, who played the leading character in the 2005 Oscar-winning movie, was arrested in January (07) and found to be in the possession of a fake drivers license.
Chweneyagae entered a guilty plea in Pretoria Magistrate Court and apologised for his error of judgement.
He said, "I want to say sorry to all my fans, friends and family. I'm only human and sometimes people make mistakes. I just want to say sorry to all South Africans and I want other people to learn from my mistakes."
When offered six month in prison or a 5,000 rand fine by the judge, Chweneyagae accepted the latter and paid 3,000 rand ($427/GBP218) upfront, with the remaining balance to be paid later.
