CHARGES DROPPED AGAINST VILLAGE PEOPLE STAR

LATEST: Former THE VILLAGE PEOPLE singer VICTOR WILLIS has escaped charges following his recent arrest for allegedly beating his girlfriend.

The 55-year-old star was arrested on 23 March (07) in San Diego, California for allegedly choking and threatening his fiancee with a knife.

Willis, who played the police officer in the pop group until 1980, would have faced charges of battery, criminal threat and domestic violence battery with no injury.

However, prosecutors have decided to drop the charges because of "evidentiary reasons".

The singer's publicist Alice Wolf says, "There was simply a minor disagreement between Victor and his fiancee who are residing together in a penthouse apartment in San Diego's La Jolla area. Victor loves her very much and she loves Victor."

Last September (06), Willis was sentenced to three years probation after being charged with drug possession.
