Respected US radio talk show presenter DON IMUS has been attacked by his own bosses after making an on-air racial slur during his syndicated show on Thursday (05APR07).
Imus apologised for calling the players on Rutgers University women's basketball team "nappy headed hos" during his Friday (06APR07) broadcast, but that hasn't stopped WFAN-AM executives from publicly slamming the host.
In a statement, WFAN-AM bosses say, "We are disappointed by Imus' actions earlier this week, which we find completely inappropriate.
"We fully agree that a sincere apology was called for and will continue to monitor the programme's content going forward."
Prior to his apology, in which Imus agreed his comment was "inappropriate" and "thoughtless and stupid," America's National Association of Black Journalists demanded the immediate firing of the Imus in The Morning host.
Rutgers coach C. VIVIAN STRINGER has also attacked the veteran radio presenter, stating, "I am deeply saddened and angered by Mr. Imus' statements. To serve as a joke of Mr. Imus in such an insensitive manner creates a wedge and makes light of these classy individuals, both as women and as women of colour."
