SWV STAR WAS BROKE + HOMELESS AFTER GROUP SPLIT

SISTERS WITH VOICES star LEANNE LYONS has opened her heart about the secret homeless struggles that dogged her life in the 10 years the gospel girl group that inspired DESTINY'S CHILD were on hiatus.

The singer admits she quickly spent the $25,000 (GBP12,800) she received as a payment when the group parted company in 1997 and suddenly found herself without a home.

The single mother of two admits she used to sleep in gay clubs run by friends and was so determined to keep her problems from her former bandmates she slept in her car at official functions.

Now the trio have reformed for shows, Lyons has revealed all about her hardship in the pages of urban magazine Sister 2 Sister.

She says, "It was very difficult because I went through a whole lot of emotional issues because it was almost like - when we broke up - like a marriage (breaking up).

"I went to school, and I did what I had to do... but I had to separate the woman from the entertainer. The woman in me said, I have to get off my ass and take care of my kids."

That attitude helped Lyons excel at school: "I got my associate's degree in accounting. I thought I was pretty good."

And her studies helped the singer realise how much she and her bandmates were ripped off by accountants before they split.

She adds, "This accountant we had, he was horrible... I don't know if being in this business was good or a curse."
