TOURE LEADS BBC WORLD MUSIC AWARDS

Malian singer ALI FARKA TOURE has taken home the top honour at the BBC Radio 3 Awards for World Music, after her release SAVANE scooped the Album of the Year award at the London ceremony last night (31MAR07).

Somalian rapper K'NAAN won the Best Newcomer award, while French singer CAMILLE emerged winner in the Europe category, and Lebanese star GHADE SHBEIR won the Middle East and North Africa section.

Other winners on the night include GOGOL BORDELLO in the Americas category, DEBASHISH BHATTACHARYA in the Asia/Pacific section, and GOTAN PROJECT in Club Global.

The winners' concert will be held at the Barbican in London on 27 May (07).
