CALLEA COMES CLEAN ABOUT HIS SEXUALITY

LATEST: Australian pop star ANTHONY CALLEA has come clean about his sexuality two weeks after a radio producer was fired over an ill-conceived 'outing' incident.

The one-time AUSTRALIAN IDOL star has confirmed he is gay after revealing he has reached a point in his life where he is comfortable enough to talk about his sexuality.

Speaking to the Sydney Daily Telegraph, Callea says, "I have no issue with my sexuality now, but it's taken time to become confident with who I am and happy with who I am.

"I'm looking forward to living a life with no barriers and not have to worry about saying the right thing."

The news about Callea's sexuality first hit the headlines earlier this month (MAR07) when a Sydney radio announcer accidentally 'outed' him.

The singer adds, "Two weeks before that I was talking about doing this. When that happened and I thought, 'OK, maybe it's telling me something.'

"In a way it's unfortunate it had to come out this way, but that doesn't bother me. I'm comfortable enough to come clean now. It's definitely a weight off my shoulders."

Callea previously denied he was gay during a 2004 interview. He admits he regrets lying about his sexuality then, but feared an admission would harm his chances to win Australian Idol.

He explains, "I handled it wrong but, at the time, I thought I was doing the right thing... You learn from your mistakes."
