ROLLING STONES RONNIE WOOD and KEITH RICHARDS haven't always been best friends - their drug and alcohol-related 'misunderstandings' often left one of the pair wounded.

Wood reveals some of the rockers' fights have been bloody and almost deadly, especially once, in a California hotel, when they drunkenly rowed about infidelities.
The guitarist says, "He (Richards) came at me with a bottle. I hit him in the belly, in the balls and in the face and had to catch him to stop him falling out the window.
"At that time he thought I was cheating on my wife. He's very moral. It wasn't true, but these stirrers got to him.
"Afterwards, covered in blood, I walked into the next room where MICK (JAGGER) and CHARLIE (WATTS) were sitting on the floor working on a song.
"I said, 'Look what's happened!' They said, 'Could you help us with this..?' (It) went totally over their heads."
Wood adds, "Another time he (Richards) came at me with his ratchet knife at my throat and said, 'I'd kill you now but your wife wouldn't like cleaning up all the blood.'"
But the rockers don't fight like they used to, according to Wood: "We do it verbally now. You can't carry knives and guns through airports like you used to."
