JOLIE: 'I CRIED CONSTANTLY ABOUT HUMANITARIAN CRISES'

Hollywood star ANGELINA JOLIE was overwhelmed and 'cried constantly' after experiencing global war and poverty first hand as a United Nations Goodwill Ambassador.

UNHCR Goodwill Ambassador ANGELINA JOLIE addresses a press conference to talk about 'The National Center For Refugee Immigrant Children'. Washington DC, USA - 08.03.05

The star visited Africa last month (FEB07) in a bid to raise awareness of the humanitarian crisis in Sudan, and admits her visits to the Third World since being appointed to the role in August 2001 have left her upset and dejected.

She says, "The first two years I just cried constantly. I couldn't really talk about the situation without being emotional. And I went through a period of just complete lack of hope."

And the star believes those who brand her goodwill work "celebrity tourism" are ignorant of what the role actually entails.

She says, "I don't know if anybody saying that has spent the last six years of their life going to over 30 camps and really spending time with these people."
